Sleaford - Lincolnshire was until very recently, known as a cattle market town. The name Sleaford is Old English, meaning "ford over a muddy stream". The stream referred to here is the "Slea. The town is also known for it's worldwide distribution of seeds, through "Hubbard and Philips, and Sharpes international" seeds. The roots of these can be traced as far back as the fifteen hundreds. Today Sleaford is known for crafts, and tourism.
The Sleaford Cycle Trail makes this town a desirable location for cycling, and sightseeing. There are also two other cycle trails in town.
You will find a local market taking place here, each Monday, Friday, and Saturday. This is a Sleaford tradition, dating back many years You will find many local treasures here.
Cogglesford Watermill dates back to the eighteenth century. Here you will hear the history of this Watermill, as well as the history of the river which powers it.
You will also find special events taking place throughout the year, in souvenirs including stone-ground flour, available for purchase. Guided tours are available.Heckington station Railway Museum is operated in the original railway station which operated in eighteen fifty nine. It has been restored to its original appearance, including, fire place, ticket window, and sales counter. You will discover many original artifacts here. This is an excellent, and educational experience.
Enjoy a train ride at "North Ings farm museum". Here you will view a history other agricultural machinery. There many vintage tractors, as well as other farm equipment to be viewed here. Very interesting and informative.
Sleaford is an excellent place to visit with many hotels and inns. They're plenty of places to shop and eat, and lots of fun and exciting places to visit. Sleaford will make a great place for a family vacation.
